The Chamber Ensemble musicians play at numerous special events throughout the year. Thus, these accomplished GIYO musicians have the opportunity to perform and explore the role of professional musicians while still in high school.
Chamber Ensemble is comprised of current GIYO musicians who show strong commitment and who are capable of the discipline necessary to serve as the community outreach extension of the orchestra. This ensemble is dedicated to performing with a high level of classical music. In addition to the consistent attendance at full orchestra rehearsals, the musicians will have weekly rehearsals and one Sunday of most months with the ensemble director. Chamber musicians also have the opportunity to participate in sectionals and master classes with professional coaches. Members usually take regular private lessons and maintain leadership responsibilities within the orchestra.
If you represent a group that would like to engage the ensemble, please contact ensemble director Missy Chappell at Ensemble@GoldenIslesYouthOrchestra.org.

Pictured above is the youth orchestra’s Melissa Chappell, an accomplished cellist, who recently re-located here from Fairfax County Schools in Virginia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music education from the Crane School of Music in New York and, two years later, received a master’s degree in Educational School Leadership, Instruction and Curriculum from Concordia University. Melissa has been involved in the National String Project and worked with the Crane Youth Music Summer Camp. She taught extensively in Virginia and performed on cello with the Orchestra of Northern New York and the Manassas Symphony Orchestra. Besides working with the ensembles, her time will be spent on expanding GIYO opportunities for elementary and middle school strings musicians.
