Welcome to GIYO’s New President
In late November, GIYO’s presidential gavel will pass from retiring president, Russ Marane, to our new leader, Mike Cherne. Mike has spent the last few months observing all aspects of the youth symphony’s work. He is not new to the youth symphony’s programs since his grandson Jason has been a GIYO member for five years. For that reason, Mike has already attended many performances and served as a volunteer for GIYO activities.
Prior to his retirement, Mike worked in Law Enforcement at the federal and local level. His job assignments took him and his family to many parts of the United States where he always enjoyed hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. Mike currently serves as an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 248 and chairperson of the Coastal Boy Scout District Committee. He plays a lot of golf and enjoys the many fine Island restaurants. Mike and his wife Marian are 20+ year Jaguar fan who seldom miss a home game.
Among his goals for GIYO is to continue to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment for all, to increase exposure in the community through an aggressive public relations campaign, and to enjoy the pride he and other GIYO board members experience whenever the orchestra plays.
