Our Conductor

Maestro JORGE A. PEÑA - VIOLA

 

Jorge Peña’s experience and interests in music are diverse. They include conducting, education, opera, ballet, symphonic music and chamber music. Mr. Peña is a former member of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and is currently in his eighteenth year as a member of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. 

 

Chamber music holds a special place in Mr. Peña’s career. Together with his wife, Korean cellist Jin Kim-Peña, he has collaborated with sought-out ensembles like the Ritz Chamber Players, the Dover Quartet and the Diaz Trio. Mr. Peña is founder and Artistic Director of the St. Augustine Music Festival, the largest free music festival in the US, which is held in June every year in St Augustine, the oldest city in the US (www.staugustinemusicfestival.org).

 

As a soloist, Mr. Peña has appeared in North, South, and Central America and in Europe.

Mr. Peña has made appearances at the Midwest Clinic, National Gallery of Art, the Virginia Chamber Orchestra, the Atlanta Virtuosi, the Tanglewood Music Center, Grand Teton Music Festival, St. Augustine Music Festival (SAMF), Island Concert Association, Valdosta State University, University of North Florida and Jacksonville University.

 

Mr. Peña’s conducting experience has been in professional settings. Mr. Peña’s appointment as Music Director and Conductor of the Golden Isles Youth Orchestra showcases his love of music and education.
